Our Comenius partners visit Cookridge!

Reception children eagerly awaiting our European visitors

Last term, we had an exciting couple of days at Cookridge when 18, yes18! Comenius teachers from our partner schools across Europe came to visit us.
Reception children made the visitors feel immediately at home by presenting gifts and doing some amazing flag waving!
During the two days the visitors called in to see every class in school, attended a project meeting to plan our next activities, had the treat of watching the Year 6 actors present Shakespeare and were interviewed by our International School Council.
On the Thursday afternoon, we held an international celebration event which was made successful by the fantastic support of parents. THANK YOU!
We had,
  •  A group of Arabic speaking  Mums helped us put on a traditional fashion show to show the diverse community that makes up Cookridge.
  • Multilingual reading- children reading the same story in Farsi, Arabic, Russian and English
  • A street dance
  • The premiere showing of the visit to Ireland presentation
  • Delicious food and artefact display organised by our Arabic speaking Mums
Songs in Spanish from Spanish Club and Senorita Castro and the Choir's first public performance (brilliant singing!)

Our International School Council, joined by children from Ireland Wood and Iveson asked thought provoking questions about how environmental issues are addressed in schools across Europe.

The Slovakian school showed us how telephone directories can be turned into incredible Christmas decorations!

The three teachers at the back are from Sobrance, Slovakia
Each school left us with some Christmas decorations made by their children. A group from our International School Council, decorated our Christmas tree at a Christmas community event held at the Methodist church using the wonderful decorations. It was lovely to think that our tree was the work of children from so many different places and countries.

We are currently preparing for the next phase in the project and I'm over the moon to inform you that it is an art competition on  the theme of recycling. Details will be sent home soon but I can let you know that winning artwork will actually be on display in our partner schools. In other words, the children will become international artists- not bad for the CV!
